Lecturer in Law
Dr Nikos Koutras is Lecturer in Law, School of Business and Law, Edith Cowan University, Perth, Australia.Dr Koutras holds a Bachelors in political science achieved at the University of Crete and a Masters in science of information which was achieved at the Ionian University. In addition, he holds a PhD in Political Science (Ionian University, Greece) and a PhD degree in Law (Macquarie University, Australia). He was awarded full scholarship for his second PhD research fellowship from Macquarie University and also received the Macquarie University Postgraduate Research scholarship. Additionally, Nikos was awarded an Erasmus International scholarship for research visit at the University of Trento (Faculty of Law) and a research grant from the University of Antwerp for ACTORE short research visit. Recently, he was awarded another research grant from the Research Council of the University of Antwerp for a small research project which complemented his postdoctoral research project. He is an expert in European Union law, copyright law and governance, knowledge governance, and more specifically in open access and open science.
His research interest is aligned with multilevel governance and public decision-making. It focuses on the role of multiplicity of public and private actors and instruments at different governance levels that play a role in decision-making in the area of copyright law and knowledge policy, in particular open access and open science. Nikos’ research also examines how the diversity of actors can contribute to effective, open and transparent decision-making, policies and processes.
